Bruch's membrane
Synonym(s) - Lamina Basalis Choroideae - Membrane, Bruch
Definition: The membrane, also known as the lamina basalis choroideae, which acts as a supporting structure on the inner surface of the choroid (the vascular sheet which supplies the retinal pigment epithelium and the outer part of the sensory retina adjacent to it). It is 7 microns thick and made up of the basal membranes of the choriocapillary endothelium and the retinal pigment epithelium. The membrane ends at the level of the optic nerve, as does the retinal pigment epithelium.
