Horny limbus
Synonym(s) - Corneal Limbus - Corneal-Corneal Junction - Limbus, Scleral-Corneal - Junction, Corneoscleral - Limbus, Scleral-Corneal
Definition: An annular transition zone, about 1 mm wide, between the cornea and the bulbar conjunctiva and sclera. It is highly vascular and participates in the metabolism of the cornea. It is ophthalmologically significant in that it appears on the outer surface of the eyeball in the form of a slight furrow, marking the line between the clear cornea and the sclera (Dictionnaire des sciences visuelles, 3rd ed.).
