Neuromyelitis optica

Definition: Syndrome characterised by acute OPTICAL NEVRITIS associated with ACUTE TRANSVERSE MYELITIS. Demyelinating and/or necrotic lesions may affect one or both optic nerves and the spinal cord. The onset of optic neuritis and myelitis may be simultaneous or several months apart.
